ABB CIF80-PB Module – Operational Procedure
1. Pre-Operation Safety
Critical Precautions:
- De-energize the AC 800M/AC 800PEC controller chassis before module installation or removal.
- Verify module hardware label matches “CIF80-PB” and revision code.
- Ground the control cabinet (≤0.1Ω resistance) to prevent electrostatic discharge.

► PROFIBUS Requirements:
- Maximum cable length: 100m (12Mbps) with terminating resistor enabled
- Shield connection: Direct to cabinet earth via ferrule
3. Configuration Steps
Software Setup (Control Builder M):
- Hardware Mapping:
- Drag CIF80-PB module to target controller slot in hardware configuration
- Node Addressing:
- Set PROFIBUS station address via DIP switches:
textCopy Code
SW1: Binary address (Default: 126 = ON-OFF-ON-ON-ON-ON-ON)
- Set PROFIBUS station address via DIP switches:
- Parameterization:
- Configure in Module Properties → Communication:
- Baud rate: 1.5/3/6/12 Mbps
- Watchdog timeout: 100-1000ms
- Process data length: Up to 244 bytes
- Configure in Module Properties → Communication:
4. Diagnostic Verification
LED | Status | Meaning |
---|---|---|
PWR (Green) | Solid | 24VDC supply OK |
COM (Yellow) | Flashing (1Hz) | PROFIBUS data exchange active |
ERR (Red) | Solid | Configuration mismatch/Bus fault |
► Fault Reset: Cycle controller power or reload configuration.
5. Hot-Swap Procedure
- Prepare Replacement:
- Insert new CIF80-PB into spare slot (power on)
- Initiate Swap:
- Navigate controller display:
textCopy Code
Main Menu → Maintenance → Module Exchange → Select CIF80-PB Slot
```:ml-citation{ref="2" data="citationList"}
- Navigate controller display:
- Confirm Transfer:
- Wait for green COM LED synchronization (~15 sec)
- Physical Swap:
- Unlock lever → Extract faulty module → Insert replacement
6. Critical Notes
- Baud Rate Consistency: Must match PROFIBUS master setting exactly1
- Shield Handling: Unused cable shields require insulated termination
- Never disable terminating resistor when module is bus endpoint
- Firmware Updates: Use SD card via controller service port (FAT32 format)
